After being in practice for thirty years, fourteen years in Jersey City and sixteen years in good old New York, I still marvel at the spine’s extraordinary abilities. It enables mobility and thousands of other nerve and bodily functions. If this central powerhouse is injured, a myriad of possible malfunctions may occur within the body causing pain levels that range from mild to severe. The discomfort that pain causes has a profound effect on our body’s mobility as well as our emotional well-being. In addition to addressing my patient’s physical pain, I am keenly aware of their emotional stress. Physical pain can have ramifications that may lead to acute physical and mental suffering, so much so, that our family, friends and co-workers may not understand us.
